Marion Grant is a digital artist whose work often incorporates Buddhist images in a contemporary context. Her work is unique in the world of digital art in that she builds layer upon layer of photographic elements to create the look of a fine art painting. Much as the fine artist uses a paint palette of different colors, Marion’s palette consists of photographic images. In addition to spiritual themes, these photographs include orchids and other flora, architectural and geometric elements, textures, patinas and gold leaf. In many cases, textual elements are also superimposed on the work. The photographic layers are blended digitally to form collages with unusual depth, color and texture.
TRANSCENDING BOUNDARIES
Viewing the Artwork: The illusion of depth and subtle variations in color and texture that characterize Marion’s work cannot be fully appreciated from a website. To provide the viewer with a sense of this fine detail, this site allows for enlargement of small sections of most of the images. Additionally, large prints of Marion’s work may be viewed by visiting her studio in the Chelsea area in New York City or at a location in Irvine, CA.
Printing and Mounting: Marion’s art is produced with archival ink on archival film media. The two films that she employs have the best brilliance, resolution and color gamut of any pigment art media available today. As an option, a form of borderless mounting, known as museum or floating plexi, is supplied. The art is laminated to a nonglare acrylic plate that is offset from the wall, giving it a three-dimensional quality and the appearance of floating in air.
